JOB BRIEF
The Research Assistant will provide research and support to the Inclusive Peace Processes and Reconciliation team.
- Pay: $17.00 - $18.00
- Work schedule: 20 Hours/Week Expected
- Start Date: Mid-January through mid-May 2023 (flexible dates with the possibility for extension into the summer and fall 2023 semester)
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide research and support for the Inclusive Peace Processes Team at USIP’s Center for Applied Conflict Transformation, specifically to:
- Conduct desk research to support team publications and workshops on various components and features of peace processes such as power-sharing, trust-building, referendums, ceasefires, security and justice reforms, elections, and strategic inclusion
- Assist in planning and supporting events on peace processes to include developing agendas, speaking lists, taking notes, and preparing other related materials
- Support the development of training materials and agendas for field capacity-building related to skills such as mediation, dialogue, and negotiation
- Conduct research related to conflicts and peace processes, potentially including but not limited to Cameroon, Venezuela, Armenia/Azerbaijan, Sudan, and Yemen
- Perform administrative duties to ensure the successful advancement of the portfolio
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a full-time graduate student in the Washington Metro Area, preferably studying international relations, democracy, and governance, or international peace and conflict resolution
- Excellent research and writing skills
- Experience editing and synthesizing professionally written pieces
- Ability to review, distill, and articulate themes from across multiple disciplines and policy and research literatures
- Experience in event planning
- Some experience collecting and organizing basic data sets as well as data visualization
- Previous research and office experience required.
USIP's Research Assistant program is administered through the Consortium of Universities in the Washington Metropolitan area. Any full-time university student in the Washington area is eligible for these openings.
All USIP contract and employee positions are contingent upon the favorable completion of a suitability background investigation.
Compensation is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
