EDUCATION ABROAD COORDINATOR

Salary Range: $5,025 - $7,159/Monthly



Work Schedule: Full-Time; Monday 8.00 a.m. to Friday 5.00 p.m.; Temporary appointment expires on or before one-year from date of hire; may be extended; may become permanent; exempt classification.



Essential Functions: Under the direction of the Director, International Office, the Education Abroad Coordinator manages all education abroad and international service-learning programs (i.e., outbound student exchange, CSU IP, faculty-led, and third-party) for Cal State LA. The Education Abroad Coordinator will: market to and advise students on education abroad and international service-learning programs; collaborate and assist International Program Developer with advising and managing inbound exchange students; develop, plan, and implement events, programs, and workshops to promote education abroad with faculty and students; track and analyze data related to education abroad programs and students, both inbound and outbound; provide work direction and training of Education Abroad student assistants; participate in student events and activities (e.g., new student orientations, International Education Week, on-campus cultural and celebration events); coordinate and track exchange programs to ensure balance of inbound and outbound students; collaborate with the International Program Developer to coordinate advising and other services for inbound students; generate reports related to student mobility and coordinating with academic departments and campus Enrollment Services to facilitate outbound students studying abroad; and perform other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications & Experience: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related. Equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services experience working in international education/programs. Knowledge of immigration regulations for F-1 and J-1 visas. The incumbent must have the ability to: analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action; advise students individually and in groups on student-related matters; interpret and evaluate descriptions and explanations of programs brought forward by individual students or groups, analyze and define the problem, draw valid conclusions, and project consequences of various alternative courses of action; carry out a variety of assignments without detailed instructions; analyze problems and identify solutions where guidelines may not exist; establish and maintain positive working relationships with a variety of individuals; and conduct, teach/train groups of students, staff, and faculty. Demonstrated interest and ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Desired Qualifications: Master’s degree in a job-related field; fluency in a language other than English; work, travel, study abroad experience in a country other than the United States; experience with the SEVIS system, including serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) and/or Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO), issuing immigration documents, carrying out reporting responsibilities, maintaining campus compliance; knowledge and understanding of issues related to international education exchange and study abroad.
