The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Threat Assessment Coordinator, University Police Services [R0134062]
ROLE of the POSITION
The Threat Assessment Coordinator, reports to the Detective Sergeant and serves at the direction of the Vice President and Director of University Police Services. The coordinator manages violence prevention and threat management programs, including active coordination and participation in the institutional Student Behavioral Intervention Teams (BIT), monitoring of employees and individuals of concern and their activities, and assessing persons who may be a threat to others or themselves. The individual will help triage, investigate, and coordinate assigned threat cases. The position is responsible for ensuring that all stakeholders potentially impacted by individuals are aware of the risks, best practices and available options. The position reviews all new cases, conducts follow-up, maintains records and closes out active cases. The individual works collaboratively with institutional partners to recommend trespasses, conduct assessment, and develop safety and contingency plans. The position provides a variety of training programs to address identifying potential l threats, managing training to employees on behavioral patterns of troubled individuals. The coordinator will be available for emergencies after-hours and on weekends regarding threat cases.
The position also assumes a leadership role in forming relationships with key constituents. The incumbent acts independently in assessing and developing action plans to address and alleviate threats. The individual case management plans are developed and executed with routine reporting to their supervisor. The decisions, judgments, and results of work performed by this position can impact the degree of liability facing NSHE institutions and the possible risk of injury to students, faculty, staff, and the community. There is a high level of visibility in internal and external relations between this position and law enforcement personnel, mental health organizations, courts and the community which requires a high degree of initiative and judgment in building and maintaining those relationships. The position must have a higher level knowledge of threat assessment and case management, violence prevention and intervention techniques, current law, statutes, ordinances, regulations, practices, and court decisions in the area of workplace violence, threat assessment, and other applicable topics in order to complete tasks assigned.
PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT/COLLEGE
The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) was established in 1865 and is currently comprised of two doctoral-granting universities, a state college, four comprehensive community colleges and one environmental research institute. The public system of higher education in Nevada is governed by the Board of Regents serving over 100,000 students and 15,000 employees.
University Police Services, Southern Command, is a full service category I law enforcement agency that serves the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, the College of Southern Nevada, the Desert Research Institute and Nevada State College. The department consists of 163 employees and has responsibility for the public safety needs of 80,000 students, faculty and staff over an 800 square mile service area. Law enforcement operations consists of 80 full and part time sworn peace officers, a full service 9-1-1 Center, K-9 operations; emergency management operations with a fully functional EOC and oversight of major special events hosting more than a million visitors a year to various events.
We operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and are the providers and/or coordinators for all emergency services on campus. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a Bachelor’s from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and four years of related professional experience or Master's Degree with two years of related professional experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE
Required
  • Threat assessment and case management in a Institutional environment
  • Current law, statutes, ordinances, regulations, practices and court decisions in the areas of workplace violence, threat assessment, and other applicable topics
  • Violence prevention and intervention techniques and a strong theoretical understanding of violence
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suit, Google Suites, Adobe Acrobat, and the ability to learn specialized data basis.
  • Ability to work across multiple departments, with various administrators, and community members.
Preferred
  • Knowledge of all aspects of the higher education environment including organizational structures, institutional policies, state and federal laws, regulations, policies, operations, and procedures
  • Law enforcement knowledge.
  • Working knowledge of campus functions and established relationships with various units across NSHE, CSN, DRI, UNLV, and NSC.
  • Knowledge of university/college/NSHE policies and procedures.

  • Act independently in a dynamic and demanding environment; resolve escalated issues utilizing knowledge or procedures and exercise discretion and good judgment, upholding the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Strong analytical and organization skills to manage multiple intersecting programs, tracking and extracting information for programs collectively and individually.

  • Experience producing professional reports, evaluations, and strategic planning materials.

  • Have the ability and experience in managing a range of non-routine projects and events, with close attention to detail, fiscal management, strategic purpose and vision. Requires follow-through on overarching and extensive projects.
